Time travel is
possible. Listen! Through the ballroom doors are the lively
sounds of a piano and the breathy voice of a cabaret singer. You reach for the doors and they open
slowly, as if in anticipation of your arrival.
Look! Once inside, you’re
surrounded by the sights and sounds of perfection. Glasses clink in cheers as butlers pass champagne and people
nibble delicately at an exotic selection of hors d'oeuvres. You take
advantage of the open bar, stocked with a full array of premium drinks, and walk
through a field of flowers to find a place to sit and enjoy the atmosphere.
Each table sets the stage
for drama with black linens that brush the floor and sprout sweet-smelling
white roses and lilies, like the night sky and her stars. Tiny alyssum blooms spill onto gold organza,
and bouquets peek out from the shadows of the stage. The singer and her accompanist are bathed in soft light—white,
blue, sepia tones—to match the mood of each song.
Dinner is a gourmet affair,
served with wine by impeccable professionals in white gloves. Warm herb rolls with softened butter. Salad of edible flowers in a light vinaigrette. Asparagus soup with a kiss of lemon and a
dollop of cream. Seasoned rack of lamb
on saffron rice with a medley of vegetables.
You sigh, sated, but this evening is far from over!
A dance band takes the stage
and the rhythms travel the room in waves as people begin drumming fingers and
tapping feet. Some drift onto the dance
floor. Others peruse the dessert buffet,
which offers a sinfully scrumptious collection of treats to enjoy with after
dinner cordials. As the music pulls you
onto the floor to join the others, you look around the room. It’s alive with sight, scent and sound. Partygoers enjoy sips of cinnamon, mocha,
French roast, at the coffee bar. Talk
and laughter decorate every corner while puffs of smoke from hand-rolled cigars
take on a life of their own, and climb to get a better view of the festivities
below.
Are you ready to suit up,
slow down, and treat yourself to an evening where time stands still in
deference to ease and elegance?
